Many people, especially those in the equestrian world, will already know Towerlands, which was built some 25 years ago by Thomas Hunnable, his vision being to establish the best equestrian and leisure centre in the country. Towerlands was successfully run by the Hunnable family until August 2004.
Towerlands has now been taken over by the Unex Group and a major refurbishment programme is underway to transform The Unex Towerlands Centre into a Sporting and Leisure venue fit for the 21st century.
The ambitious programme is already well under way and includes creating one of the largest outdoor all-weather arenas in the UK. By extending the collecting ring and installing a new gel track surface throughout the already well established indoor arena.
The associated bars, restaurants and dining facilities are being upgraded in order to cater for International Shows. The nine hole golf course which is open to the public is also scheduled for improvements in the longer term.
The first phase of the refurbishment will be complete in 2005 when the new outdoor arena will be ready for use.
Located in Braintree, The Unex Towerlands Centre is well positioned to find its place on the international circuit - a 20 minute drive from Stansted Airport and 45 minutes by train from the centre of London.
